Celebratiy Sighting

Monday, March 28th, 2005

After a nice Easter Brunch with my sisters and one of their boyfriends we went to see a movie at a Lowes near 70th and Amsterdam. We settled on Hostage. After we sat down a shortish Japanese woman with what appears to be a personal assistant arrives and sits a couple rows in front of us. Her assistant sits a row behind her. At that point my city dwelling sister leans over and informs up that is Yoko Ono. She apparently lives near by to the theater and is often seen in the neighborhood. During the previews she decided she wanted a better seat and moved up several rows behind us. Nicely no one in the theather made a big deal about her precense if they noticed.

Netflix

I have been a Netflix subscriber since I bought my first DVD player in 2002. (yes I was a much later adopter of DVDs than might be expected). Recently I let Danielle have my login information to Netflix so she could have input on movies to watch. I must say this is a MUCH better system than going down to a local movie rental place and deciding on a movie based on what is available. What I have found as big a benefit of Netflix is the leisure to watch the movie when you get around to it rather than having to watch it or get charged late fees. If I was getting charged late fees for some of my recent selections (specifically Miracle which took me over a month to watch and Whale Rider which I have had out for more than a month at this point and still haven’t watched) I would have been better off just buying the DVDs rather than renting them.

All that being said Danielle and I actually watched two films this past weekend. We watched Wimbledon and The Door in the Floor. Both films were enjoyable and worth watching. Wimbledon was definitely light entertainment fair. Don’t expect anything deep or even unpredictable. But if you can suspend your disbelief you might end up enjoying it.

Out other selection, actually Danielle’s other selection both films were her choices, was The Door in the Floor based on John Irving’s novel A Widow for One Year. The acting was better in this film. The plot is more believable and the characters has more depth. You never, well I never really liked any of them they were each unlikable in one way or another. I didn’t really care for how the plot was resolved either.
